Barbados1Water

Decision support tools for sustainable water management on the island of Barbados.

Copernicus Sentinel Data 2025

Predictive tools for complex island hydrology

The population of Barbados depends on groundwater for its water supply. However, the island's geology is complex, making it challenging to predict how much water is available and how it will respond to changes in climate and extreme weather events. Through the most comprehensive data aggregation exercise on the island to date, Barbados1Water is delivering a state-of-the-art coupled groundwater-surface water model of the island. Integration with real-time data means that Barbados1Water can provide timely and accurate water level forecasts to support decision makers.

A Unique Collaboration

Barbados1Water brings together decades of experience from the Barbados Water Authority, along with the hydrologic modelling expertise of Aquanty Inc., and additional support from the Caribbean Institute for Meteorology and Hydrology (CIMH).

The objective of the Barbados1Water project is to advance water science on the island and to provide a decision support tool for the Barbados Water Authority so that it may optimally manage the island's water resources.
